My immersion blender whipped cream recipe is quick, easy, and delicious. This recipe is perfect if you do not have an electric mixer or KitchenAid stand mixer, and it is also great if you only need a small amount for one or two servings. If you want to learn how to make whipped cream with an hand mixer, keep reading!

Can You Make Whipped Cream with an Immersion Blender?

Yes, you can! You can definitely make whipped cream with a hand mixer. Honestly, you can make whipped cream with any kind of blender or mixer…there are even people who use whisks and make it by hand! As long as you can agitate cream for a period of time, you can make homemade whipped cream.

Why Use an Immersion Blender to make Whipped Cream?

There are two main reasons why you might want to use an immersion blender to make whipped cream instead of a larger mixer or blender:

  • Lack of equipment:

Kitchen appliances cost money, so sometimes you can’t have all the gadgets you would like. Hand held blenders are not only cheaper than electric mixers, but they can also do jobs that larger mixers and blenders can’t. For example, if you want to puree a soup to make it smooth and creamy, you don’t have to wait for it to cool down and then transfer it to a blender: you can blend it sooth in the pot.

  • Good for a small serving:

It’s hard to cook for just one or two people, and homemade whipped cream is no exception. If you just want a bit of whipped cream for a bowl of ice cream or a slice of apple cobbler, it doesn’t make any sense to make enough whipped cream to frost a cake.

Although most people know to reduce the amount of ingredients, it also makes sense to use different equipment–why clean a big blender for just one or two servings of whipped cream? It’s better to use an immersion blender that can be cleaned easily and quickly.

Hand Held Blender Whipped Cream Tips

Even though making whipped cream with a hand held blender is easy, there are still a few things to keep in mind:

  • Use dairy that is at least 30% milkfat:

According to CaliforniaDairyPressroom.com, cream needs to be at least 30% milkfat in order to form whipped cream when beaten. However, although light whipping cream, which contains 30-36% milkfat, can be used to make whipped cream, it won’t hold its shape as stiffly or as long as heavy whipping cream which is at least 36% milkfat.

If you are following the recipe exactly, and you are beating your cream as hard as you can but it is not getting thicker, check the fat content: too little fat, and it will never form whipped cream.

  • Chill the blender, bowl, and cream:

When making homemade whipped cream, everything needs to be cold. Cold cream is a given, but many people don’t realize that even the blender–and the bowl in which you do the blending–should be cold, too.

Cold equipment will keep the cream colder, longer, so you can easily and quickly make homemade whipped cream.

Should You Add Sugar to Whipped Cream?

Although not absolutely necessary, a bit of sugar takes whipped cream to the next level. Many people use powdered sugar, but I used regular white sugar in this recipe, and I thought it was fine.

Should You Add Vanilla Extract to Whipped Cream?

I remember the first time I added vanilla extract to whipped cream. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting it to be much different, but when I took the first bite, I knew that vanilla extract must be a secret ingredient in many whipped cream recipes. I just used 1/4 teaspoon, so you don’t need much.

Even though I’ve never tried it, I think a bit of almond extract might be good, too.

Recipe Review

Honestly, this quick stick blender whipped cream recipe turned out great! As you can see in the YouTube video linked at the end of this article, the cream stiffened in just a minute or two. When I tried it, I thought that it had the perfect balance of sweetness and vanilla–delicious enough to eat on its own yet subtle enough to eat with something else.

This hand held blender whipped cream recipe was the perfect amount for one or two servings. If you are eating a bowl of ice cream or a slice of cake as a midnight snack, and you only need a bit of whipped cream as a garnish or side, this recipe is perfect.

Possible Changes

Like I said, I thought that this homemade whipped cream was easy to make and delicious to eat, so it was perfect. However, in the future I would like to experiment with other versions such as:

  • Keto Whipped Cream
  • Whipped Coconut Cream
  • other non-dairy versions.

It looks like I have a lot of experimenting to do…
